Two-timing air purifier doubles as spy camera
It's not like we haven't seen air purifying functionality crammed into nearly everything under the sun before, but the latest iteration doubles up in an entirely more discrete fashion. The Air Purifier Spy Camera does precisely what you'd think, as it innocently cleans air while waiting for movement to be detected in front of it. Once that happens, it records video (no audio, unfortunately) of the scene until 15 seconds after the motion ceases. To store the incriminating evidence, it writes the video to the built-in 16MB MMC, but if you expect a whole lot of naughty to be going on, you can certainly implant a larger card. Notably, this sucka most definitely does not come cheap, as the basic version rings up at a staggering $725, and you'll be asked to throw down an additional $179.95 if you like your videos in color.[Via TRFJ]

I'd get one but no straight guy gets an air purifier...
Foolio Slim @ Sep 2nd 2007 9:28AM
Wow, someone taking the time to post a comment simply to reiterate how "straight" they are. Me thinks thou dost protest too much...
Bad Beaver @ Sep 2nd 2007 9:53AM
Cute, isn't it? Sad thing is some people stay this way all their life.
Is it just me, or is this gizmo pathetically overpriced? And 16MB? What is this, the 90s?

Only a gay guy would think that such a remark was made for such a stupid reason. But you're clever to insinuate that anyone who says anything that sounds even remotely gay-bashing is just covering up for actually being a gay himself. Are people who criticize rape and pedophilia are actually closet rapists and pedophiles, too? What about the guy who remarks, "I'd buy the new Chrysler," but that's a black man's Cadilac"? Is he a closet black guy who doesn't want anyone to know he's black? You must be really insecure to be so easily troubled by someone announcing their straight status. Why do you suppose a gay parade should be considered cool, while a straight guy individually announcing his orientation should be considered wrong? Maybe it's those who participate in gay parades are protesting too much.
I have no interest in politicalizing sex. If you're gay, that's your business. If you're straight, that's your business, too. No one should feel threatened by his fellow man because of his sexual orientation. All of us should have the freedom to brag about what we are, if we really feel it's worth bragging about, and gays don't have a corner on that market.

It's not just you. $725 for black-and-white and 16MB? I know you said it already, but what is this, the 90s?
Hell for that price I'll buy a $30 air purifier and a $40 webcam, stick the camera inside myself, and just sit it next to a PC.

Video recording, 16MB of storage, $725+
Why, Id pay $1000s for some really short pixelated video. You can't expect a reasonably sized MMC for this low low price.

I can see these in a lot of dorm/frat house rooms.... I predict a new flood of poor grade, short, very short duration, funny as hell porn spreading its way across the net.
HyperHacker @ Sep 2nd 2007 6:50PM
At that price? I can't see college students buying $725 air purifiers.
