Equa's Light Delight LED faucet system
We can't say we're digging Equa's traditional design for their Light Delight faucet system as much as Hansa's more futuristic interpretation, but they're both based on the same idea, which is just as sweet as the first time we saw it. Like the Hansa unit, the Light Delight senses the temperature of the water and turns on a red LED to light up the water when it's hot and a blue LED when it's cold; Equa one ups Hansa though, adding a violet light when the water's just warm -- aren't technological advancements amazing? We're not sure how readily available these are but at least one U.K. retailer is selling a couple of different models in the £400 to £500 range, so start saving your quid -- or just wait for the cheap knock-offs to start flooding in.

Dik @ Jun 15th 2006 4:25PM
Is it just me, or do those faucets look like blow-torches?
iDean @ Jun 15th 2006 4:25PM
it could be tones cheaper if it just sensed where the handle was pointed, and not the water.
David @ Jun 15th 2006 4:26PM
Could create a nice mood for your bath.
Dik @ Jun 15th 2006 4:34PM
Possibly iDean, but how often have you turned the handle, and waited for the water to change temp. This way, you don't have to play the guessing game.
slyecho @ Jun 15th 2006 4:40PM
@iDean: The handle location does not guarantee an accurate temperature measurement of the water flowing out of the faucet. Water in the hot water pipe usually cools down over time and it takes a few seconds for new hot water to flow up to the faucet.
Robert @ Jun 15th 2006 4:45PM
The faucet I treid out (from Hansa) set the color based on the temperature you set not the actual water temperature. Part of the reasoning is that you set the temperature you want by color. Showing just the temperature would encourage one to set the temperature too high and then when the water temperature reached that setting, it's much too hot. You might notice a color change but you still need to fuss with the temprature adjustment again.
binaryvisions @ Jun 15th 2006 4:52PM
It'd be cooler if the lighting had 10+ levels between blue and red... Maybe some fiber optics around the edge of the faucet where the water comes out would allow for the lighting unit itself to be larger and allow changes like that?

'start saving your quid...'
Failing miserably to sound British there chaps. Haha. The word 'quid' is only used directly after an amount.
eg:
A couple of quid.
10 quid.
400-500 quid.
Just a footnote for the future. Interesting article, ingenious tech. Keep up the good work!
Earl @ Jun 15th 2006 5:19PM
At that price? I think I'll wait for the cheap knock offs.
Dik: Blowtorches ha!
Anyone know any Kitchen Sink Hacking websites? This could be the opening of a new genre in life hacking
WPA_Flamer @ Jun 15th 2006 5:39PM
Robert,
I think there are advantages to both methods. The temperature of the water coming out of the faucet is not always related to the handle's position, even after you wait for the hot water to come -- it depends on the water heater's cycle, and other circumstances.
A combination of the two would be pretty sweet. You set the facuets to the approximate color you like, and then you can see when it's around that temperature when the colors are in sync.

Has anyone else gone to their website?
Those crazy Italians are always confusing Faucets with Showers.

Pretty nifty idea, imo.
Virtical @ Jun 16th 2006 12:08AM
ahahah, nice, i dont look at this as a particuarly useful thing, more a cool design thing, home opens would love this :P
id sure as hell buy a few if they were a bit cheaper
Oddmanout @ Jun 16th 2006 1:31AM
Kitchy(sp?) if you ask me (and no one did). I might be interested in it if the light were anti-bacterial (no I didn't check their site to see if it is. If so, let me know...). But all things anti-bacterial are controversial these days aren't they...

I saw something similar last night at HGTV but it was much more attractive than this blow torch wanna-be.
The one shown {from some home show} was a hose-style faucet with a Blue LED ring that turned on when the user touched it and when off automatically after 10-seconds of no activity.
These faucets are going to be great for vegetable cleaning., specially lettuce which could have small insects hidden in the leafs.
The funny thing is it kinda resembles the snake-thing from "War of The Words".
Z.A. @ Jun 16th 2006 6:56AM
Isn't there a slight chance of getting electrocuted by this if something went wrong? I'm surprised no one posted this.
Bryan @ Jun 16th 2006 9:49AM
Nice. I was thinking I'd see it at someone's house one day and it'd be interesting to see in action but I probably wouldn't install that. I'd buy my faucet from a different manufacturer like Moen. It's a neat trick and all but I'm not likely to stray from the brand our family uses.

"wait for the cheap knock-offs to start flooding in"
No pun intended, right?

Where in the US can I purchase one of these?

I thought those were oxyacetylene torches at first. I agree, hansa's hansacanyon's are much cooler looking.. but about twice as expensive.
